First off, I'd really be giving this two stars, but since I saw a one star review that had nothing but favorable comments in it, I wanted to bring the average up a little.The other reviewer must have goofed.

Has a little memory to make it seem like the weight is repeatable, i.e. I weigh in, immediately grab less than a pound of stuff and weigh in again, it gives me the same reading.However, if you just wait a couple minutes between weighings, or change your weight by more than a pound, it seems to report the new weight.Does not have a blue backlit display, which was a disappointment since it's one of the things that set it apart.Really, unfortunately, this is a half-pound-increment scale that's faking .2 lb precision with a random number generator and memory function.

It's a decent scale if you only want half-pound accuracy and you're not the type to weigh yourself twice in a row.But between the fake repeatability and lack of advertised accuracy,and the lack of backlight, this isn't worth it.

*Note: I have my scale on the same section of hardwood floor and I stand in the same spot every time, And I use my kitchen scale to verify the weight of the things I hold to test the scale.

I have an extremely similar scale to this from the same manufacturer(mine has green display, and the middle part extends to the bottom of the scale.Still has the same 3 buttons.This scale is both accurate and consistent.Yeah, you can fool it once in a while if you weigh yourself and then within 10 seconds weigh yourself with a 3.5 oz weight. I put a 20 pound weight on it and it read 20.2 lb.The .2 doesn't bother me - to be honest it is probably the cheap weight I have.If I weigh myself and then drink 5 oz of water and weigh myself again after a minute has passed, it fairly accurately reflects the difference.You have to remember it's rounding to .2 pound increments.So it's entirely possible that if you eat one pound of food, the weight may seem to go up as little as .8 lbs and as high as 1.2 (at it's least accurate, when it has to round way down on one end and way up on the other).Over the long haul, I believe it really is accurate to the .2 lbs.

The progress tracker is actually quite simple- it is the instructions that are bad. You just hit the "set" button, use the up and down arrows to select which person (1-4) you want to do, then hold in the set button until the "0.0" pounds displays.Weigh yourself.The first time you do it, it sets the weight. Do the same thing if you want the progress info - hit set, pick the person number with up and down arrows, and hold set until the scale shows 0.0 lbs, weigh yourself.It will tell you what you weighed last time, how much you lost, etc. while you stand on it.

This is a good scale.I've had bad ones that float 1 lb in either direction while claiming to be accurate to .2 lbs - this is not one of them. It feels sturdy, the foot pads are more comfortable than solid plastic, and the display really is cool looking.Also, if it's like the model I got, it takes regular old AAA batteries, which should be included in the box.

When I set out to purchase a Scale I looked at just about every scale available on Amazon and read as many reviews as I could.I settled on the this scale because of the other reviews found here, the looks of the scale, and price.Yes I even compared this model with others at WalMart and Bed Bath & Beyond.

Many other reviewers mentioned problems setting up the scale, having it work right out of the box issues, judgements about accuracy, and ease of use. Some even mentioned no matter who got on, everyone weighed 174.4.If that were me I would keep the scale.However, when mine was delivered I opened the box, and the batteries fell into my lap, I saw where they went and put them in all without reading the instructions. Now if you have ever set the time and date on a digital watch with buttons for advancing and a button for setting, you will feel at ease .Those of you who still have VCR's with the clock blinking will want to glance at the SIMPLE instructions first.They are very clear and easy to follow.

After you insert the batteries, place the scale on a flat surface (does not have to be the floor). Follow the instructions.You do everything with just two buttons.The two buttons you see below the display only do two things each - one is a SET/SAVE function the other SCROLL/HISTORY.You either press and HOLDor just press and release the buttons to set the various settings available.This scale will keep track of the tiime and date, your height, age and gender.You can even set your weight goal.This is a neat feature because after you set and store your first "official" weight - cuz you know you are going to get on and off this thing at least 10 times to see if it is consistent, it will show you how much you have lost since your last weight and also show you how much you still have to lose.So if you don't gyrate around but stand still and straight, you weight should be the same dead on each time.

But you ask, Do I really have to fiddle around with setting all those features, I just want to know how much I weigh?.Well of course you can.Just don't push any of the 4 buttons on the front. Just walk up to the scale and tap the top or center of the scale as if to say "hey I'm here to weight myself - wake up", the display will come to life - it will cycle the display light while it zeros out, then once you see the BIG 0.0you can climb on and get it over with.But if you linger a bit longer on the scale, it will sense that you want to know more, so while the shower water is getting hot, take a moment to see what it says about your hydration level and your body fat percentage.If your feet bottoms are as dry as the desert or you're still wearing socks, you will get a "e" error reading. The manual mentions this at the very beginning. I don't put a lot of confidence in the body fat and hydration readings. Too many things can influence the accuracy of the readings, but as a guide it will do.

Some people expect too much from a $50 scale, but if you are buying this because you are tired of just watching The Biggest Loser and see everyone else climb on a scale and lose weight, you can climb on this scale and watch the digits pop your magic number right up without fear of being voted off.And when the numbers start to go down it will be accurate enough to give you encouragement that you are losing.Of course if you are not trying to lose weight, then this will be just as accurate for those who are eating every twinkie they find and want to gain weight.

Oh ... are there any cons?It could be bigger and I wish it didn't creak when I got on it. (I'm not any where near the max of 375lbs it can hold but it does seem to twist a bit when the first foot goes on. The display could be a bit bigger for these tired eyes, but it is bright enough.I would buy it again if I needed two or if I wanted to give one as a gift. (But if you do buy it as as gift, make sure they really like you, you know?) :)

I bought this scale at Bed Bath & Beyond. I could't enter any of the user settings because the arrow keys didn't seem to work. I returned it and together with the customer service rep we opened and tried 3 more scales at the store. All had the same problem. Reading through the manual we did everything right but couldn't change the pre-set height, age etc. settings. Either there is a design flaw or there is a trick to get this to work that they don't disclose in their manual.

I chose this scale based on the thin design, material and reviews I read.I wanted something that looks good to me, considering that it will be visible on my bathroom floor, and I wanted something thin enough to slip under a piece of furniture if I chose to hide it; I also did not want something that I could trip over. It is a great looking, very accurate and well priced scale, that I don't mind seeing on the floor and have not tripped over. It does not slide around, so it is very stable even though it is thin. Soehnle 63530 Alpha Digital Bath Scale Review

This scale worked great the first week I had it home.Measurements were always spot on, and I could weigh myself 10 times in a row with the exact same weight within 0.1 pounds.Plus, I loved being able to just step on and have it work right away.

However, after that first week, it no longer turned on.I bought a new battery, which was a pain to find, which didn't do any good.Amazon is great and is taking it back of course, but they don't have any more in stock currently, so I'll have to find something else.

Pros: Classy, understated appearance. Low profile. Very accurate when it works right.

It worked great for perhaps 2 weeks, then occasionally would get stuck in a mode where it added about 30 pounds. New battery made no difference. After a few months, it failed completely.

I did not keep the packaging or receipts (will next time), so I had to toss it out. But first, being an electrical engineer, I took it apart. The soldering on the circuit board was horrendous, a typical result of cost-cutting outsourcing. This little circuit board would normally be assembled by machine, but was instead was manually soldered by someone with obviously little training and/or care (who was likely being paid next to nothing).

To see the classy product of talented designers doomed by clueless cost-cutting is all too common.

I have always wanted one of these scales in my home. It is identical to the kind you will find in a doctor's office. It gives consistent readings from day to day. For some reason, other scales I have owned would vary in their readings up to 7 pounds from day to day, maybe because of the temperature or weather, or may be because they are just cheap. I went with BALANCE BEAM. Then there is METRIC(Kilograms) or ENGLISH(Pounds) or BOTH. Other features are HEIGHT ROD, HANDLES (to aid a person stepping on or off the scale) and WHEELS (to easily move the scale). The reason there are so many model numbers to choose from is because Detecto has provided nearly all combinations of these features.

"Elegant" here meaning impressively simple.

During a recent stay at the Huntington Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Pasadena, I liked the scale in the bathroom well enough that I wrote down the brand (Soehnle). When I returned home, I searched for it on amazon and ordered it, or what at least appeared to be the same model (I had not written down the model number).

I am very pleased with it for the following reasons:

* The platform is a comfortable size.

* The LCD read-out is large and legible.

* The weight reading stabilizes quickly and then holds.

* By pushing a button, you can change the display between pounds, kilograms and stones.

* The unit appears to be sturdy and well made.

* The battery is a common size and is readily available.

The only possible drawback is that the surface is smooth glass. There is a removable plastic label on it saying that it might be slippery.

I replaced a quality mechanical scale with this one, and have found that the readings are now more consistent.

Have used this for a month or so. Seems quite accurate to 1/10 of a percent (but how can I really know?). After looking at and trying several other scales that have features galore and measured me every way from here to Pittsburgh and remembered every pound I ever gained, we got tired of constantly referring to the instruction book to see how we could just find how much we weighed. This scale is GREAT!It is easy to use and has clear numbers.The only different item that I would like, is for it to either have a memory or for the weight numbers to stay on the screen for a longer period of time after you get off the scale.Its very accurate and I would recommend this product highly.

Health o Meter HDM770-05 Weight Tracking Scale, Black Review

I've had nearly the opposite experience as the previous reviewer. I have found this scale to be WILDLY inaccurate. If calibrated (by tapping the corner and waiting for it to zero out) I can step on and off of the scale 5 times and get 5 different readings that vary from 2-5(!) pounds (it is set on a hardwood floor), which has made the whole issue of weight loss a guessing game. I am left assuming I lost 10lbs because the averages have fallen by roughly 10lbs. However my doc tells me that during the same time he shows me as having lost only 3lbs and ~7lbs heavier than averaged. I will agree though, this hardly feels like it could take it's stated weight. I started at ~310 and was worried it would crack. Add to that a cryptic multi-user feature and I just would say no if this hadn't been given to me.

Taylor 7322 Lithium Scale Review

I purchased this scale and have yet to get any kind of number. Everytime I (or anyone) gets on the scale it says "Err". Now, in the troubleshooting section of the instructions, it says that if you exceed the 330lb weight limit, you will get this message. I am only 180 lbs. My two year old is only 32 lbs and it gave her the same message. This product is junk. Waste of money.

As soon as i realized that i started to gain weight for pretty much no reason , i thought that i should try to control how much do i eat or drink.

It was kind of hard to decide what kind of scale to choose as pretty much all of them looked nice and would give you an accurate weight. Then i realized, that knowing just the weight is not enough - i need to know how many calories are in one serving and how much one serving is and then do the math. Most of the times it's pretty easy, when it's written on the package. But let's say you are going to have a cup of coffee with cream and sugar. I was amazed that the amount of cream i was putting was as twice as much than i thought. Then comes the sugar. Sure, i can get the list of products online and look up how many calories are there and then calculate how much did i put. Instead, i just put the code from the manual and i can see the amount of calories out of the sugar right away. A cup of coffee only is around 100kkal and i can take about 5 cups per day. 500kkal just out of coffee while trying to take under 2000 kkal per day. Any product that seems to be harmless has calories in it and you eat it without even realizing that you are overeating throughout the day. I love grapes and i eat as much as i want and consider it a light snack till i put it to the scale and realize that sometimes this snack is 300-400 kkal.

I'm glad i got the scale and know how much do i eat. Besides, the design is very sleek, the scale is smaller than i thought as it looks bigger in the picture and it takes less space than a dinner plate. If you are about to start to control how much do you need i would highly recommend to spendthose extra $20 for this particular model with nutrition calculator - it makes you life much easier.

Taylor 938 Easy-to-Read Mechanical Scale with 5" Raised Dial Review

My review is for the Taylor mechanical scale with raised dial, chrome finish, and 360 pound limit/accuracy.It is the same build as model 938, but with a limit of 360 pounds rather than 300.

The scale is durable and functional, but the accuracy is variable.Their box states "accurate to 360 pounds" however, they are confusing accuracy with precision.Precision is zero to 360 pounds.Accuracy is within TEN pounds.

I find the following procedures help increase accuracy to within 1-2 pounds.
A) Set on flat surface.
B) Calibrate dial
C) put your full weight on the scale.
D) Step off
E) Wait 2-3 seconds for the scale to settle.
F) recalibrate dial
G) repeat from C

2-3 repetitions are required.It is possible that after a while, the spring will work in and stabilize, but for now, it tends to drift.I don't think this is suitable for lighter people or people who are very emotionally sensitive about their weight.This is suitable for a "pretty close" estimation.

If true accuracy is required, spend the $200+ for a professional grade scale.

Weight Watchers Body Analysis Scale Review

I had a different (very expensive) body fat scale, but it wasn't very reliable. If I didn't stand in the exact same spot and balance my weight exactly the same, the measurement could vary as much as 10 pounds! I finally got disgusted and bought this scale.

This scale is great (even if it doesn't give me the numbers I'd like to see, ha ha!). I experimented with it by measuring myself a bunch of times over a 15 minute period. I varied where my feet were placed, what direction I leaned, or even if I wobbled a little while it was working. It came up with the exact same measurements each time. The directions say to stand in the same position and stand still, but it's nice to know that the scale is accurate.

I joined a gym last November to get into shape. I asked a bunch of my friends what are the essentials for weight loss. They all told me you need a way to find your body fat percentage. I saw this scale thought I would give it a try and it broke within a week. At first I thought it was the batteries but after spending $12 on these specific watch batteries the scale does not work anymore. I knew I was buying a cheap scale and when I got it the plastic frame just looked like it was going to be very fragile or break some other way. This item was great except for the tap to turn on feature.Tapping turned into pounding very quickly.In the reviews I had read when researching...I found that this was an issue in all of the lower to mid priced bathroom scales.I did put a peice of folded paper underneath the door of the battery compartment that nearly ended the tapping problem.I rarely have any more trouble with it.I am assuming that the tapping loosens the batteries making it harder to turn on.For the cost and a folded peice of paper, this is an excellent buy, especially for those who aren't looking for something fancy.
